Duality in Music

MIDEM is an annual music trade fair held in Cannes, France. In 2018, with the support of BEKRAF, Indonesia joined the event for the first time as a country.
Giving an image of an identity could be done in many approaches, but we chose to go with Visual design. And visual design itself should speak volumes of the identity it aims to represent. This remained to be our one significant mission for MIDEM, a leading B2B networking event created for the key players in the music industry which took place in Cannes, France.
In this case, it is Indonesia's never-ending flow of culture and diversity we wanted to share with the world. We used BEKRAF'S choice of identity branding, which is Indonesia's 17.000 island of imagination, as a concept brief for the design.
Simpul Group wanted to portray Indonesia's duality in so many different things. We did this by incorporating nauticals and volcanoes in the design which took the form of billboard branding, print Ad, merchandise, and Indonesia's Music Industry Overview book. We wanted the entirety design to convey the message that even though Indonesia is in fact rich of traditional music, it is also rich of contemporary music and how it must be embraced.
