A summary of Indonesia’s book industry journey: from London to Indonesia’s 17,000 islands of imaginations.
For those in the publishing industry, The London Book Fair is no stranger to their ears. The annually-held large-scale trade and publishing event is one of the most prestigious in the world, and in 2019, it selected Indonesia as its market focus country.
This news was received with joy by the Indonesian publishing industry, which made a collective effort to capitalize on the momentum generated by the announcement and bring Indonesia to the forefront of publishing.

Simpul was involved in the creation of the book that documented that herculean effort, #Imagination Book: 17.000 Islands of Imagination. Not only did the book document the efforts leading up to the London Book Fair, it also covered important contextual information regarding the Indonesian publishing industry. In the creation of this book, we learned so much about not only the publishing industry, but the thousands of people who make it, and the millions more who comprise Indonesia – all captured in essence within this book.
