Stories Told With Us

We wanted to help capitalize on the momentum the Indonesian publishing industry received, by creating a social media identity that was colorful, vibrant, and as diverse as the country itself. Through careful curation and strategizing, we introduced Indonesia, and Jakarta as its literary hub to the world, establishing it as a literary powerhouse in and of itself, with the gravity and reputation to contend with other countries.

International Publishers Congress 2022

Hence the name “Gentle Proportions.” We assisted in the process of documenting the firm’s 10 selected works, from concept consulting, editorial structure, content, photography style, and design, to managing and executing the content production itself by collaborating with the most esteemed interior and architecture photographer, Melanie Tanusetiawan, and our associate/stylist, Lianggono Susanto.

Lala experimented with writing styles which in hindsight seemed didactic, but also surreal. Just like how memories come and go in our life, in a definite way, but sometimes come like a dream.

Lala Bohang: “Waking Up for the First Time”

On the other hand, the MampuBeraniBersikap campaign was aimed towards teenagers who are pressured into early or child marriage, encouraging them to chase their dreams and avoid that fate. We employed content creation and executed digital events as well as managed KoLs to ensure the success of these two campaigns. Each campaign featured different aesthetics with emphasis on the importance of actual human faces that the audience could relate to, empowering them to believe in themselves and the campaigns.

MAMPU

MAMPU: Platforms for Empowerment

In media relations, our role focused on establishing and maintaining strong connections with local, regional, and international media partners. We organized press conferences, media previews, trips, and visits to ensure broad coverage. We also developed media kits that included press releases, event documentation, and merchandise. Additionally, we managed media buying, including TV commercials and news packages. When it came to KOL & community engagement management, we were responsible for selecting, negotiating with, and collaborating closely with the event’s main icon. We also coordinated various activities for KOLs, influencers, and key stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and impactful event experience.

Indonesia Bertutur 2024: Media & KOL Management

Simpul was involved in the creation of the book that documented that herculean effort, #Imagination Book: 17.000 Islands of Imagination. Not only did the book document the efforts leading up to the London Book Fair, it also covered important contextual information regarding the Indonesian publishing industry. In the creation of this book, we learned so much about not only the publishing industry, but the thousands of people who make it, and the millions more who comprise Indonesia – all captured in essence within this book.

Komite Buku Nasional: #IMAGINE

In creating the collection, we asked artist Lala Bohang to collaborate as the lead artist. The result was the “Tired But Cute” NFT collection, an IP Based Community Led NFT project that celebrates being ‘tired’ in a playful way. The collection was heavy on narrative, with 3.333 NFTs being generated, with a personality quiz involved during the minting process that decided what you would get. Executing the project creatively and designing it was an act of courage on our part, traveling to regions not familiar to us, an exciting leap into the unknown.

While the calendar was illustration heavy, the calendar for the private customers also featured copy that highlighted financial management, projections, cash flow, diversification of portfolios – all signs of healthy finances. This reflected the rabbit zodiac, which was agile, skillful, and responsible, all features you would want financially.

Mandiri: Chinese Calendar

In terms of Out-of-Home campaigns, we designed promotional materials such as videotrons, banners, Trans Jakarta bus branding, and billboards across Jakarta and Bali. To further elevate our content, we infused it with elements of Indonesian literature, creating a distinct cultural narrative. Additionally, we crafted newspaper-style invitations that captured the attention of key opinion leaders (KOLs) and guests, motivating them to encourage their followers to attend. As a result, the event attracted over 30,000 attendees, the Instagram following grew by 100% (from 13K to 26K), and we achieved a 6.5% engagement rate (6.5M).

Indonesia Bertutur 2024: Communication Strategy

The first element of the rebranding was the logo, of which we had to design anew as well as a special 30th anniversary logo. This logo reflected the five working elements of Koperasi Astra, “Prosper (Passionate, Respect, Open Mind, Synergy, and Performance), melded into one logo, the image of a paddy. We also worked on other visual elements of the brand, which trickled down from the logo as the main identity. This included logo placement, brand colors, and more.

The book is decorated with illustrations that underline and support the story of rapid, constant growth, that shows the principles and management that are embedded into the running of the company. This book tells the purest story of one of the most digitally and business savvy companies in Indonesia.

Lintasarta

Lintasarta: Jumping the Growth Cycle

In taking this approach, MACAN wanted new, alternative interpretations of Suwage’s work, ones that took a creative writing approach to examining a different medium of art. Beyond editing, designing, and working with MACAN to develop the book, we also participated in planning the launch and the social media promotion for the book to reach a wider audience.We established a certain sophisticated and cool tone of voice that permeated the social media promotional materials.
